Barney is a tri colour Shetland Sheepdog and was born in Aug 2000. We had Barney in June 01 when he was 10 months old and he started obedience in July 2001.
Barney at first was slow to learn but when he was about 18 months old he seemed to get what he was meant to be doing at obedience and there was no stopping him. I would try and get him to do a trick and within about 5 minutes he would be doing it brilliantly. Barney has gained all 3 Kennel Club Good Citizen Awards at the obedience club. He also became a member of the training group display team in spring 2002. In 2004 Barneys claim to fame was managing to get his photo in the Cheshire Life magazine running through hoops of fire on the dog walk at one of these displays.
As Barney seemed to be at his most happiest when learning new things we started think about what he could do and was introduced to agility by a fun day that was held by our obedience club. The hunt then was on for a local agility training classes in the area.
We joined Allsorts Agility in Feb 2003. Barney seemed to love it from day one. In May 2003 he took part in his first show which was the Wilmslow's Show at Sale. Barney progressed well that year with a few runs with only 5 faults but as both handler and dog was still inexperienced it was not until March 04 when he got his first clear round. Barney has got a good turn of speed and is best suited to flowing jumping courses.
